POSITION:  Finance and Operations Associate

SALARY:    Commensurate with experience.  Excellent benefits package.

STATUS:     Exempt, Full-Time

U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI), a nongovernmental, not-for-profit national organization dedicated to addressing the needs and rights of refugees and immigrants, is seeking a Finance and Operations Associate with 2-3 years of accounting experience preferably in a not-for-profit organization.  The Finance and Operations Associate will manage business operations such as general accounting, human resources, and all aspects of front/back office operations. This position will report to the Director of USCRI Des Moines.


Finance: Ability to perform all phases of general accounting: compile, post, analyze, and balance financial transactions; work with general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.  Responsible for budget tracking, preparing and submitting monthly and quarterly reports, and submitting reimbursement expenses. Work closely with the Headquarters Finance Department to insure accurate reporting and compliance on accounting practice. Resolve issues and process daily requests.

Operations/Administrative: Provide oversight and support to manage the reception area and telecommunications system, routing calls, greeting visitors and responding to inquiries from the public.  Oversee purchases/procurement for office-related supplies and materials.  Supervise interns/volunteers as needed.  Perform clerical duties including mail handling, filing, data entry, and other operations and administrative support duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Human Resources: Interpret and apply rules, regulations and procedures while ensuring uniformity in accordance with guidance from Headquarters.  Provide guidance to local field staff on specific entitlements and personnel issues, taking action locally as appropriate and/or notifying Headquarters.  Support full-cycle human resources process, including processing human resources related paperwork, and coordinating successful onboarding for local field staff.

• College degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or other related field with 2 to 3 years' work experience, preferably in the non-profit sector.
• Excellent analytical skills and thorough knowledge of general accounting principles, budgets, and contracts management.
• Strong computer skills are required, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and the accounting software Fund E-Z.
• Strong administrative skills, including attention to detail and accuracy, are a necessity.
• Ability to multi-task, work independently, and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, is essential.

• Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
• Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
• Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
