POSITION:  Employment Counselor

SALARY:     Commensurate with experience.  Excellent benefit package.
STATUS:      Exempt, Full Time

U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI), a nongovernmental, not-for-profit national organization dedicated to addressing the needs and rights of refugees and immigrants, seeks an Employment Counselor for its Vermont field office.  This field office operates as a refugee resettlement program and employment program for refugees and asylees, as well as offering ESL classes, interpretation/translation services, community education programs and legal services.

The position of Employment Counselor is responsible for serving as the agency's primary point of contact and advocate for the employment of clients, developing job opportunities for clients through outreach, relationship building, and networking with area employers, and assisting clients with developing self-sufficiency plans.  This position is also responsible for providing training and orientation to refugees regarding the American workplace; accompanying clients to interviews as needed; maintaining case files; submitting written reports as required; and developing and maintaining positive working relationships with Creative Workforce Solutions, the Vermont Department of Employment and Training, and other service providers.  Other duties may be assigned by the Director.

Excellent interpersonal skills, bilingual English and Nepali, Karen, Burmese, and/or Arabic preferred.  We are seeking a candidate with strong organizational skills who is able to prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.  Successful applicants will have excellent interpersonal and team-oriented skills, ability to work independently, and superior communication skills with refugees, staff, and employers.  Requirements include MS Office proficiency, driver's license, clean driving record, personal transportation.  Prior experience with social services provision, job development or refugee resettlement is preferred.  The candidate must have dedication to the human rights of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers and displaced people.

• Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
• Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
• Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
